Police looking for woman who tried to cash stolen check

SUMTER, SC (WIS) - The Sumter Police Department needs your help identifying a woman they say tried to cash a stolen check that had been altered.

The woman is a person of interest after she was allegedly captured on video attempting to cash the check at a Sumter credit union before fleeing. Investigators say she did not get any money.

Officers said the check was apparently stolen from some mail before being altered.

Police urge residents to be vigilant if they notice someone opening residential mailboxes or other activity that is out of the ordinary. Take note of the individual's description and the make, model color of suspicious cars in the area and call police.

Callers can remain anonymous, and a cash reward may be available for information leading to an arrest.
