CALHOUN COUNTY, SC (WIS) - Calhoun County Sheriff's Office investigators are hoping the public can help them find a man they say severely injured a woman at his house Tuesday night.

Sheriff Thomas Summers says 35-year-old Charles Lamont Winston, Jr. of Saint Matthews invited a friend to his house Tuesday night. After just a few minutes the woman tried to leave, but before she could get out Winston cut her throat and cheek, the sheriff said.

The woman was able to escape and get into her vehicle to drive away.

Winston has a history of mental illness and should be considered armed and dangerous, Summers said.

"This man committed a seemingly unprovoked and brutal attack on an innocent and unarmed woman," Summers said. "I need him off the streets."

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Winston should not attempt contact with him, but instead call 911 immediately, the sheriff said. Those who wish to remain anonymous may call Crimestoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC. Your information could make you eligible for a cash reward.
