SALUDA COUNTY (WIS) - Authorities are investigating a deadly shooting early Sunday morning in Saluda County.

Chief Deputy Chris Cockrell with the Saluda County Sheriff's Office said deputies responded to a home in the 2400 block of Highway 23 near the town of Ward after an argument between two men broke out.

"The preliminary findings of the investigation thus far indicates that the owner of the residence was at [home] when a car load of individuals came by that he knew and he let them into his residence," Cockrell said.

An argument then broke out and the homeowner asked the group to leave but when one of the men tried to enter the home by kicking in the door, the homeowner shot him, Cockrell said.

Cedric M. Gantt Sr., was pronounced dead by medical personnel, Cockrell said.

The Saluda County Sheriff's Office, along with SLED, are currently investigating the shooting.

No arrests have been made.

Anyone with information about or witnessed the incident is asked to call the Saluda County Sheriff's Office at 864-445-2112.
