LEXINGTON COUNTY, SC (WIS) - The Lexington School District Two Board of Trustees on Wednesday evening announced that Dr. Tom Siler has been named the school district's next Superintendent. Dr. Siler was unanimously approved by the Board as the Superintendent-Elect and will officially assume the duties of Superintendent when current Superintendent, Dr. Venus Holland, retires in June 2015.

"There were three excellent finalists and the Board had a tough decision to make." said Bill Bingham, Chairman of the Lexington District Two Board of Trustees. "We are very excited to have Dr. Siler join the district in this leadership position. His deep background in education and positive energy will be a tremendous asset to the community and keep us moving forward in an educational environment that is constantly evolving. The Board asks our staff and community to welcome Dr. Siler and support him as he prepares to be Lexington Two's newest "Champion for Children."

Dr. Siler has been the Superintendent of Williston School District 29 in Barnwell County since 2012. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood and Elementary Education from Lander University, and an M.Ed. in Educational Administration and Supervision, an Ed.S. Degree in Educational Administration with Emphasis in CD-12 Administration, and a Doctor of Philosophy, Educational Administration from the University of South Carolina.

Dr. Siler was named the Relay for Life Superintendent of the Year for South Carolina in 2012 and has served as the President of the Salkehatchie Consortium of Districts for the past two years. He is also a member of the SC Association of School Administrators, SC Council for the Social Studies, SC Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, SC Reading Association, International Reading Association, and the SC Association of Title I Administrators.

The Board of Trustees is working to finalize a formal contract with Dr. Siler. He is anticipated to start with Lexington Two on September 15 as the Superintendent-Elect and will utilize the time in the interim over the 2014/15 school year to work in concert with the current Superintendent, build relationships, and plan a smooth transition in advance of Dr. Holland's departure.
