COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - A corrections officer was arrested Thursday after assaulting an inmate, Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott said.
Kiara Lusk, 25, surrendered to authorities and was charged with assault and battery, Lott said.
Lott said the incident, which stemmed from a verbal altercation on April 29 between Lusk and the inmate, occurred inside one of the dorms at the facility. The incident was witnessed by another corrections officer who immediately reported it to their supervisor.
Lott said the inmate at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center was treated for non-life threatening injuries to her elbow and back.
Lusk was released from the county jail on a $10,000 bond. Jail records didn't indicate whether Lusk has an attorney.
