Sheriff: Suspect used soda purchase as ruse in armed robbery

COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - A suspect in a recent armed robbery pretended to purchase a soda just before pointing a handgun at a store clerk, according to the Richland County Sheriff's Department.

Sheriff Leon Lott said this incident took place around 4 p.m. on Jan. 18 at the Home Depot on Two Notch Road.

Investigators said the suspect pointed his weapon at the clerk and demanded money.

The moments leading up to the robbery were captured on the store's video surveillance system.

Video shows the suspect wearing khaki shorts, a black knit hat, a black bowling shirt, and a Dallas Cowboys-themed scarf.
