LEXINGTON COUNTY, SC (WIS) - Lexington County Sheriff's Department detectives are seeking help from citizens in identifying people who have information concerning the fatal shooting of a 31-year-old Columbia man early Sunday morning.
Deputies say Brandon E. Ratliff was fatally shot while trying to mediate a dispute that involved several people outside a bar on Berryhill Road in the St. Andrews community.
Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts said detectives understand that a number of people left the Cockpit Bar & Grill at 214 Berryhill Road out of concern for their own safety following the shooting.
After the incident, Ratliff was transported in a private vehicle to Lexington Medical Center where he was pronounced dead, Metts said.
Metts asked anyone with information about the incident to contact the Lexington County Sheriff's Department at (803) 785-8230 or CrimeStoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC. Citizens also can provide information anonymously by accessing the Crime Tip link on the Sheriff's Department web site (www.lexingtonsheriff.com).
The circumstances of the shooting of Ratliff remain under investigation, Metts said. Detectives also are continuing to investigate the nature of the dispute that Ratliff was trying to mediate when he was shot once in his chest.
In addition, detectives are continuing their efforts to identify the person who fatally shot Ratliff.
