Mulch fire finally out at SCE&G site

COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - A mulch fire that burned for several hours Sunday is finally out, fire officials said.

Columbia Fire Department spokesman Brick Lewis said the fire started around 7:30 a.m. and was extinguished around 4 p.m near Frost Mill Road and Monticello Road.

The mulch fire had no visible fire but involved several acres at a SCE&G site used for disposing of natural vegetation.

Smoke could be seen for miles in the area.

No injuries were reported.
