Missing SC man rescued after falling 25 ft. from tree stand

GEORGETOWN COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – The Georgetown County Sheriff's Office was able to locate a hunter in the woods Sunday who had been missing since Friday afternoon.

A spokesperson from the GCSO said that at 9 a.m. on Sunday, deputies responded to a 911 call from Pennyroyal Road to the report of a 43-year-old man who had not returned from a hunting excursion.

Sheriff's deputies entered the woods behind his house and were able to find him within ten minutes at the bottom of his tree stand. The victim told deputies he fell from his tree stand after falling asleep.

Tony Hucks, Assistant Chief of the Georgetown County Fire Department said the man fell 25 feet from the tree. The GCSO called GCFD to assist with EMS, and the man was air lifted to the hospital. Hucks said the man did not sustain life-threatening injuries, and they were able to land the helicopter near where he fell in an open field.
