RICHLAND COUNTY, SC (WIS) - Richland County deputies have arrested two men in connection to Thursday night's fatal shooting at a convenience store in Northeast Columbia.
Sheriff's Department spokesperson Sgt. Curtis Wilson says 19-year-old Dequan Vereen was taken into custody and charged with murder.
On Friday 21-year-old Tevin Richardson was arrested by the Richland County Fugitive Task Force.
Both men are being held at the Richland County jail.
Wilson says the victim, identified as 51-year-old Robert Jewell, was shot and killed while sitting in a car at the Food Fare convenience store in the 7400 block of Hunt Club Road just before 8 p.m. Thursday. Jewell died at the scene after being shot in the torso.
Wilson says Jewell knew the people who shot him.
A check of Vereen's criminal record shows he was previously charged with attempted murder and attempted armed robbery for a November 2012 incident at a convenience store on Forest Drive. Investigators said he fired two shots at the store clerk after trying to rob the store of lottery tickets.
Vereen's bond was initially set at $100,000 for the attempted murder charge and $75,000 for the attempted armed robbery charge, but they were both reduced to $50,000 in January 2013. He was released the next month.
Investigators continue to search for a woman.
The department released surveillance video of a portion of the incident.
As for this case, if you can help deputies find the people they're looking for, you are urged to call Crimestoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
