RICHLAND COUNTY, SC (WIS) - Richland County Sheriff's deputies arrested a man Thursday whom they described as a known criminal after they say he tried to sell copper he had recently stolen.

47-year-old Frank Johnson was arrested after he tried to get a permit to sell copper. Deputies recognized Johnson, who was wanted, at a metal recycling plant.

Sheriff Leon Lott said Johnson had metal "that showed of a freshly committed crime in his possession."

He was charged with two counts or burglary, four counts of larceny, and destructive/damage/vandalism of property.

Deputies say Johnson and Larry Hudson stole three air conditioning units and parts from walk-in coolers and freezers from a business on Parklane Road on August 16th. Hudson was arrested earlier this week.

Investigators determined Johnson stole copper from several other businesses on Parklane Road and Cresthill Drive.

Sheriff Lott said Johnson has an extensive criminal history and is happy to have him off the streets.
