Lexington County fugitive arrested in West Virginia

LEXINGTON COUNTY, SC (WIS) - A Gaston man wanted by Lexington County deputies for attacking his wife with a box cutter has been arrested in West Virginia.

35-year-old James Christopher Shawver was charged with attempted murder and kidnapping for a violent attack on his wife on April 18th.  Lexington County Sheriff James Metts said Shawver was arrested by the U.S. Marshals Service Friday afternoon near Paytona, WV.

Shawver is awaiting extradition while held at a jail in Holden, WV.

Metts said Shawver's parents live in West Virginia. He was found in the woods near a small hunting cabin.

According to arrest warrants, Shawver attacked his wife, Kristen with a box cutter during an argument at the couple's home in Gaston.  She managed to flee to a neighbor's house.

Kristen Shawver was taken to the hospital for treatment and was released Thursday.
