RICHLAND COUNTY, SC (WIS) - A Columbia woman who was driving a vehicle that fatally struck a pedestrian Saturday night is in jail charged with felony DUI.

According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the crash happened just before 10 p.m. on Highway 321 at Crane Church Road.

Richland County Coroner Gary Watts said 26-year-old Jeremy Ricardo Hayes of Columbia was walking in the painted median when he was struck by a vehicle driven by 53-year-old Aliza Brown.

Hayes died approximately three hours later at Palmetto Richland Hospital, Watts said.

An autopsy conducted yesterday shows that he died from complications of injuries sustained when he was hit by the vehicle.

Brown is being held at Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol continues to investigate.
