Soldier killed in accident outside Shaw Air Force Base

SHAW AIR FORCE BASE, SC (WIS) - A soldier stationed at Shaw Air Force Base was killed Monday afternoon following an accident with a log truck, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

The Sumter County Coroner identified the deceased man as 40-year-old Bryant K. Riley, who was stationed at the base's Army Station.

Highway Patrol troopers say the incident occurred about 1:16 p.m. when an International log truck traveling east on Highway 76 disregarded the stop light and struck Riley's 2007 Ford pickup truck in the driver's side.

Riley was wearing a seat belt, and was pronounced dead at the scene.

No word on any charges against the driver of the log truck.
