COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - Columbia City Council voted in favor to allow the city manager to put together a proposal to purchase the Palmetto Compress Building.
Council voted 6-1 Tuesday night for the measure with Councilman Moe Baddourah as the only dissenting vote.
The building's fate had been up in the air as movers had been quickly removing items from the old warehouse, as plans were in place to demolish it.
A Facebook group was launched with the help of the Vista Guild Merchant's Association in order to save the century-old building on Blossom Street.
Currently, the warehouse is used as a storage facility.
Council will discuss the next steps involving the building at a meeting in April.
