RICHLAND COUNTY, SC (WIS) - The Columbia Fire Department's quick response to a fire at a chemical plant prevented a potential disaster Saturday afternoon.
Brick Lewis with the fire department says firefighters were called to Lindau Chemicals on Granby Lane off Bluff Rd at about 12 p.m. Saturday.
Lewis says a coating on the exterior of a chemical tank was burning. The tank contained a chemical used to make paint adhere to surfaces. Firefighters put water on the exterior of the tank and prevented the fire from spreading to the chemical inside.
Lewis says the neighborhood was not threatened by a possible release of chemicals.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
