A Lexington High School employee is on paid administrative leave after several school employees reported receiving an inappropriate email on Sunday.

Lexington County School District One officials said the email was a "chain mail" type joke with inappropriate humor and images.

Administrators at the school and district level immediately began a thorough investigation. "As with any investigation, it is important that the district not jump to any conclusions but, rather, to act in accordance with Board Policy and district procedure," wrote district spokesperson Mary Beth Hill in an email to WIS.

District policy requires that staff immediately report any message they receive that they feel is inappropriate or that makes them feel uncomfortable.

"Since this is a personnel issue, it would be inappropriate for me to discuss this with you," wrote Hill.

Officials have not released the identity of the employee.
