Man with 7 DUI convictions gets 25 years in crash that killed teen

LEXINGTON COUNTY, SC (WIS) - A man who crashed a pick-up truck while driving 85 miles per hour in a 35 mph zone killing a 17-year-old last year will spend more than two decades in prison after being found guilty of felony DUI.

David Onley, 46, of Gaston received the maximum penalty of 25 years in prison on Wednesday from Lexington County Judge Roger Young for his involvement in the collision that killed Jonathon Lee Humphrey on the afternoon of December 28, 2011.

Onley, who had 6 prior driving under the influence convictions and 6 prior driving under suspension convictions in South Carolina and Florida, was unlicensed and had no insurance when he drove the pickup truck off of Founders Road and into the woods near Longview Street, prosecutors said.

Neither of the two were wearing seatbelts. Humphrey died as a result of the collision.

A blood sample obtained by the Highway Patrol yielded a blood-alcohol concentration of .20 percent, which is more than two times the legal limit of .08 percent to operate a vehicle in South Carolina.

Assistant solicitor Rick Collins and Todd Wagoner prosecuted the case.
