COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - A driver charged with felony DUI was among dozens of arrests overnight Saturday in Five Points.
Columbia Police arrested 29-year-old James Green on a DUI charge after investigators say he crashed into a car at the corner of Millwood Ave. and Washington St. at about 11:30 p.m.
Police say Green was traveling east on Washington St. and failed to yield to the other car traveling north on Millwood Ave. When the two cars collided, Green's car flipped on its side.
Green and four passengers were taken to the hospital. Police say one person suffered severe injuries while the others were treated and released.
Based on preliminary numbers, the Green's arrest was one of 41 total arrests in the neighborhood late Saturday and early Sunday.
A total of 63 charges were filed against the people arrested, including Assault, Unlawful Carrying of a Pistol, Drunkenness, Resisting Arrest, Possession of Beer Under the Age of 21, Open Container, Fake ID, Unlawful Urination, and Providing False Information to Police.
Columbia Police expected a large crowd in Five Points after the South Carolina-Georgia football game and made special plans for security coverage.
Authorities decided to send around 50 officers into the area after the South Carolina football game because of a shooting and two mob assaults within two hours after the last Gamecocks home football game on Sept. 23.
