Columbia Police have arrested a man wanted in connection with an assault just outside of Five Points back in Augusta.

Officials say Michael Blaszczyk turned himself in to police to face charges in the assault.

An arrest warrant was previously issued for Blaszczyk, a Marine from Camp Lejeune, several weeks ago on charges of second degree assault and battery.

Police say the victim and a woman accompanying him in this case were walking home from Five Points around 2 a.m. when the three suspects approached them from behind at the 2200 block of Wheat Street.

The victim told investigators that one of the men called out to get his attention and when he turned around, he was punched in the face and fell to the ground.

The victim was treated and released.
