LEXINGTON COUNTY, SC (WIS) - The owners of a Lexington County bird shop hope you can help them recover thousands of dollars worth of birds that were stolen from their store earlier this week.

Lexington County deputies were dispatched to Birds by Veta located at 104 Andrew Corley Road on Monday morning after employees noticed someone had forced entry into the store.

Employees reported nine birds, including two on consignment, five cages and a cash register to be missing. The birds are valued at a little over $4,300.

Joe Lesh, the owner of the birds, is heartbroken about the incident.

"You just feel very violated," Lesh said.

Stolen birds of this type are often sold in other states or on the internet.

Investigators do not have any suspects.

"Why would someone want to break into a bird shop?" Lesh said. "What would be the motivation? Just the fact that birds are so expensive?"

If you know anything about this incident, you are urged to call Crimestoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
