COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - It was a full moon. Darkness had fallen on Spring Valley. Donna Draughn, nor her kitten Angel knew what was happening to the other cats in the family -- Lightning and Tootsie.

"I called 'em for breakfast and they weren't there, so I thought they'll show up for dinner or supper and they didn't show up," Draughn said.

Turns out the two outdoor felines showed up dead.

"We found Tootsie by the well," Draughn said.

"My husband came home to cut the grass, so we went out to cut the yard and that's when we found the kitten. She was only like three months old. She was tiny."

Tiny like Angel, her indoor cat who come to find out lost both of her playmates.

"We were in the middle of burying Tootsie when I saw the head. I said, 'What is that?' That's when we figured out it was just the head," Draughn said.

As if that wasn't traumatic enough, when they called the neighborhood guard, they asked them to exhume the bodies. That's when they found out this was likely not an animal attack.

According to the incident report, the responding guard said upon examination it was easy to see the head had been removed with a sharp cutting instrument, not ripped like an animal would have done it.

Draughn is not alone in her disgust, we found at least three similar reports in the neighborhood have been filed over the past few weeks. Two noted their cats were beheaded. Richland County animal care says they've launched an investigation to figure out who is doing this.

"I think they need to be brought to justice or they could hurt a person," Draughn said.

Angel is staying indoors for now.

The Spring Valley Homeowners Association says it is disturbed by this news and plans to work with Richland county on the investigation.
