Police search for man wanted in downtown stabbing

COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - Columbia Police are looking for a homeless man wanted for stabbing another man downtown Saturday night.

Police say the stabbing occurred just before 6 p.m. in the 1300 block of Richland Street near Ebenezer Lutheran Church.

Based on preliminary information, police say the men had just finished eating dinner at the church when they started arguing.  During the argument, one man stabbed the other in the torso and arm then ran away.

The victim required surgery for his wounds.

Police say neither man had a permanent address.

The suspect is described as a black male with a stocky build, possibly 5'9" to 5'10" last seen wearing camouflage pants, orange shirt and a green hat. Witnesses told police he had a foreign accent.
