Coroner: Infant dies after last week's triple-fatal accident
CALHOUN COUNTY, SC (WIS) - An infant ejected from an SUV on Interstate 26 last Thursday died over the weekend, according to the coroner.
Calhoun County Coroner Donnie Porth said 1-month-old Donte Trevell Turnipseed-Sturdivant died from injuries in the crash.
Porth said a car seat was found about 15-feet from the Ford Explorer, but the infant was not in it. The little boy was born June 20.
35-year old Tresy Sheron Crowder of Charlotte and 27-year-old Sharhonda Turnipseed of Monroe, NC also died in the accident, according to Porth.
Authorities said the Explorer left the right side of the road and overturned around 4:30 p.m. in the eastbound lanes near mile marker 137.
Investigators said on Thursday that the driver and a passenger were killed. However, it is unclear who was driving.
A total of eight people were in the SUV, including an infant, a toddler and an 8-year-old.
Three people were thrown from the SUV.
Eastbound traffic was backed up for about 7 miles behind the wreck after a tree fell onto the roadway and blocked both lanes a few miles before the scene.
