COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - A commercial dump truck driver has been charged with reckless homicide following an accident in Five Points on June 25 where a man in a motorized wheelchair was killed while crossing the road.

Columbia Police have charged 66-year-old William Travis Crutchfield.

Police say Crutchfield was driving his dump truck and failed to stop prior to the stop bar at the intersection of Greene and Harden streets.

The truck struck 67-year-old George Jackson, who was rushed to Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital by EMS where he was later pronounced dead.

Investigators say Jackson had the right of way at the intersection when he was struck by the dump truck.

Crutchfield turned himself in and was transported to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
