COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - "I want people to say I'm packing up I'm headed to Columbia, South Carolina to Columbia's fashion week," said Alicia Zeigler with Columbia Style Week.
Organizers of Columbia's first ever style week are planning five days and nights full of fashion and glamour this summer.
Designers and boutique owners from Columbia to New York will be showcasing their newest collections.
"We think it has huge potential, huge benefit to the city of Columbia," said Maya Troy with Columbia Style Week. "Plus it's going to be a truly high fashion, fun, fabulous event."
The organizers of the event are also hoping it will have a positive impact on the economy. Instead of people leaving for Charlotte or Charleston for their fashion week, they can stay here and spend their money in Columbia
"There's a market for it here," said Zeigler. "Columbia desperately wants it and ask Charlotte and you ask Charleston how many of the people that patronize their fashion weeks reside in Columbia I'm sure they will have some very high numbers.
Carissa Strickland owns the M2 boutique in the Vista which will also be part of style week. he says an event like this will continue to help put Columbia on the map as a travel destination
"This is long overdue," said Strickland. "This is something that everyone has been waiting for especially people heavily involved in fashion and wanting to make a name for themselves in fashion this is an outlet for us all."
Columbia Style Week starts June 5th.
