COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - One of the protestors from Occupy Columbia has decided to make a run at the State House in the 88th district.
Walid Hakim filed paperwork on Friday to declare his entry in the race to unseat incumbent Rep. McLain Toole, who has served in office since 2003.
Hakim, who was a Marine for five years, says he understands the challenges the state faces.
"Representative Toole, following the lead of Governor Haley, continuously stood in the way of help for those who need it the most," Hakim said in a press release.
Hakim was one of the 19 protestors arrested on the State House grounds for violating a curfew put into place by Gov. Nikki Haley.
