James Brown's mother dies of heart failure at 87

(Augusta, Georgia-AP) Feb. 27, 2004 - The mother of soul singer James Brown has died in an Augusta, Georgia, nursing home. Susie Brown died of heart failure Thursday at Augusta Hills Nursing Center following a long illness. She was 87.

The singer lives in Beech Island in Aiken County.

His nephew, James Carter of Bamberg, says whenever Susie Brown was in the hospital, she would brag about her son.

Susie Brown was born in Bamberg County in 1916. She married James Joseph Brown Senior in 1932. The future singer was born the next year.

Brown is survived by her son, James, nephew James Carter, sister Jettie Loadholt and brother Earl Behling.
