House lifted over razor wire at DJJ
COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - It was a sight most have never seen before -- a house being by a crane lifted over the razor wire fence at the Department of Juvenile Justice.
The house, which has been dubbed, "House That DJJ Built" was constructed by DJJ youth behind the fence working side-by-side with volunteers.
After months of work, the house was lifted over the fence of DJJ's Broad River Road Complex and moved to its permanent location Monday afternoon, where DJJ youth in the community will assist with final construction.
"I think it's having great impact on these kids," said SC DJJ Director Margaret Barber. "Keep in mind somebody cares for them all of a sudden. They are getting attention they didn't get before. This goes a long long way."
The new homeowner was on hand to witness the lift.
