GREENVILLE COUNTY, SC (WYFF) - It's deflated now, but a hot air balloon along the side of Interstate 85 in the Upstate caused a major traffic jam Thursday morning.

The balloon could be seen from a South Carolina Department Of Transportation camera. Officials at the DOT said the sign said Ron Paul on it.

People looking at the balloon slowed down around Pelham Rd. in Greenville County.

At one point, Thursday morning, the traffic backup was about 4 miles long.

A Department of Public Safety spokesman said the operator of the hot air balloon was asked to take it down because it was causing a hazard.

The balloon operator was given a written warning for improper lane use because the balloon was set up in the middle of the frontage road.
