LEXINGTON, SC (WIS) - A Lexington woman contacted us about a pesky critter causing problems in her neighborhood, but she doesn't like the way officers plan to handle it.

Lynda Fite says beavers are wreaking havoc on the pond in her Farming Creek subdivision. She says beavers keep building dams across the water keeping some it from drifting to the rest of the pond.

"I'd like to see it back the way it was," said Fite.

Fite's homeowner's association contacted a wildlife removal service to get rid of the problem. The officers will use a conibear to catch the beavers, but it will kill them instantly.

Fite says that's inhumane. She'd rather the animals be captured and relocated.

"It's upsetting," said Fite. "I'm an animal lover and I don't like to see things done that don't need to be done."

Robert McCullough from the Department of Natural Resources says there are no other options besides killing the beavers.

"Relocation is a hard thing," said McCullough. "You run the risk of spreading diseases which may in turn kill a lot more animals."
