CLARENDON COUNTY, SC (WIS) - Sheriff's deputies say an attempt by an armed man to rob the 99 Cent Thrift Store outside of Manning failed when a second person joined the clerk inside the store and the robber got spooked.

According to Clarendon County Sheriff Randy Garrett, around 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, the unidentified armed man walked into the 99 Cent Thrift Store on Hwy 260 and approached the clerk. Garrett believes the robber thought the clerk was alone, but when another person entered from the back of the store the robber ran away.

Garrett said the man did not take anything and nobody was hurt.

The South CArolina Law Enforcement Division's K9 Unit was dispatched to the area to help track the man. Garrett said a search, which lasted for a couple of hours, yielded no clues. Investigators believe the may have gotten into a car and fled.
