Mother and son killed on same day
LEXINGTON COUNTY, SC (WIS) - A Lexington County family in mourning, after a mother and son were killed on the same day.
First, the son 50-year-old David Kent Cannon was gunned down late Friday morning in his home on Meadowlark Road in the Chapin area.
And then, a one car accident took the life of his mother.
Lexington County Coroner Harry Harman says Cannon was shot three times.
When word got to his mother that something had happened at Cannon's place, his mother jumped into her 2001 Lexus and headed towards his home.
Investigators say seconds later, 70-year-old Maggie Fulcher lost control of the car rounding a curve on Dreher Island Road, slamming into a utility pole and a tree.
Fulcher died Friday afternoon.
Jennifer Cannon the murder victim's daughter said she heard the news from her mom.
"She was like, your grandmother was in a car wreck and they couldn't resuscitate her," said Jennifer. "And I was like, oh God, you know. And she was like, and your dad was murdered."
Lexington County Sheriff's investigators have not been able to determine a motive for the shooting or name a suspect.
But the department and the family believe Cannon knew his killer or killers.
Deputies say they will be stationed near the victim's home Tuesday morning, handing out flyers in an attempt to generate leads.
