Motorcyclist, two horses die in fiery wreck

COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - One person and two horses are dead after a motorcycle ran into a horse trailer late Monday night on Interstate 26.

According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the motorcycle was traveling east on I-26 near mile marker 109 in Lexington County just before midnight when it hit an eastbound trailer being pulled by an SUV.

The collision caused the motorcycle and trailer to catch fire.

Lexington County Coroner Harry O. Harman said 28-year-old James Allen Farmer of Cayce died at the scene. According to the highway patrol, the two horses that were in the trailer at the time of the accident also died.

The driver of the SUV was wearing a seatbelt and was not hurt.

An autopsy performed on Farmer on August 23 revealed that he died from blunt force injury to the head.

Two lanes of the interstate were blocked for about three hours overnight.

The accident is still under investigation by the Lexington County Coroner's Office and the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
