LEXINGTON COUNTY, SC (WIS) - The South Carolina Highway Patrol said a car struck a ditch and ran into a building early Sunday morning, killing one man and sending another to the hospital.
The accident happened on Cross Road, eight miles east of Lexington.
The coroner says 22-year-old Christopher Shawn Mitchell, of Lexington and another person were driving in a 1998 Chevrolet Monte Carlo west on Cross Road at a high rate of speed. The driver, according to the coroner, failed to stop at an intersection at Platt Springs Road. The vehicle then struck a ditch and building.
Mitchell was pronounced dead at the scene. The coroner said Mitchell was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle. He determined the cause of death was multiple head and body trauma.
The other victim was not wearing his seatbelt and was also ejected. He was taken to Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital with serious injuries.
The patrol's MAIT team is continuing to investigate the crash.
