(Columbia-AP) Oct. 21, 2003 -- Former Lieutenant Governor Bob Peeler says he will not run for the US Senate.

Peeler says the timing isn't right for him to seek the seat being vacated by the retiring Ernest "Fritz" Hollings. The former gubernatorial candidate says he is busy with a son in high school, a new business and his new job on the Clemson University Board of Trustees.

Peeler refused to say whether he would endorse another candidate and says he can't rule out a future run for office.

Two Democrats and four Republicans are vying for the Senate seat.
