COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - We have just witnessed Nikki Haley's historic inauguration as South Carolina's first female and minority elected governor and also the youngest governor in the country at the age of 38.
This is an exciting time for us as she takes on this challenge in one of the most difficult financial environments our state has faced. But so far, I've been impressed. She seems to be very focused, is surrounding herself with credible, capable cabinet members, and has taken a feet on the ground approach to working with legislators.
I look forward to watching her negotiate these treacherous waters. There is much to be accomplished, tough decisions to be made, and a lot of consensus to be reached on how we move this state forward.
Nikki Haley seems to have the right stuff, but time will tell. However, she can't be the only one with a dog in this hunt. We each need to take personal responsibility for communicating our concerns to legislators and ask them to work together for the good of South Carolina.
We have an opportunity to put our state back in the positive limelight and establish ourselves as dignified, progressive, and financially sound. The future starts now.
That's my perspective, and I'd like to hear from you.
