NC restaurant worker who shot robbery suspects talks about ordeal
CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Police say a restaurant employee shot and killed two armed robbery suspects after they allegedly beat a fellow employee during a robbery attempt late Monday night.
The incident occurred around 11 p.m. at the Pizza Hut located at 5422 East Independence Boulevard.
Two would-be robbery suspects were found dead on the restaurant floor after police said an employee washing dishes pulled out his own gun and fired at them.
"I shot them, first him, and then the other one runs to us and then I saw him, he's also holding a gun so I shot him," said the employee who didn't want to be identified.
Two male Pizza Hut employees, ages 22 and 57, were in the back of the business cleaning up for the night when three suspects armed with weapons entered through the front door. They forced the two employees into the cooler and allegedly beat one of the employees.
Police say that's when the other employee fired his personal weapon at the suspects.
Two of the robbery suspects were shot and killed. Police have identified them as Dauntrae Wallace and Gregory Hardy. The third suspect managed to get away.
CMPD said two handguns were recovered from the suspects who died inside the restaurant.
Police have not said if any charges will be filed against the employee who shot the two suspects. The search continues for the third suspect who ran away.
