On April 7th we will gather at the State Library and march to the South Carolina State House. The parade, complete with students, mascots, and a color guard, will lead us to the festivities on the State House grounds. The program will celebrate the theme, “Kids Who Read, Succeed!” The state-wide celebration is open to all groups with students ages 4 to 18, even if you cannot travel. We will have a 30-minute video showcasing the best parts of the day shortly after the program concludes.
Registered student groups gather in the State Library’s parking lot at 1500 Senate Street between 9:15 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. The parade begins promptly at 10:00 a.m., traveling Senate Street to the State House grounds. At the State House, there is a brief program followed by reading in small groups. Each group is responsible for providing its reading materials, banners, or signs. Participants are encouraged to dress up as their favorite character and bring their favorite book to read on the State House grounds after the program. The Read-In ends at noon, and buses are not permitted to leave until 12:30 p.m.
Register your student group before March 31st at 5:00 p.m.. We will email you the registration packet the Monday before the Read-In; this packet will include all instructions and details related to the event. Should we need to cancel, we will email all registrants by 9:00 a.m. the morning before the Read-In and still offer the video program.
The South Carolina State Library is proud to partner with ReadSC, the South Carolina Association of School Librarians, and First Steps to sponsor this event.
