COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - South Carolina is poised to elect a new attorney general for the first time in more than 15 years, and Tuesday’s Republican primary will decide which of three GOP candidates advances to face Democrat Richard Hricik—an unopposed Lowcountry attorney with more than 30 years of experience—in November.
The Republican field includes state Sen. Stephen Goldfinch of Horry and Georgetown counties, 1st Circuit Solicitor David Pascoe, and 8th Circuit Solicitor David Stumbo.

All three have courtroom experience and say public safety and strengthening the justice system are central priorities. They also agree they would retry former attorney Alex Murdaugh after the South Carolina Supreme Court ordered a new trial last month, though any retrial likely wouldn’t happen until 2027, after the next attorney general takes office.
The GOP nominee will be decided on Tuesday and will move on to the general election against Hricik in November.
