WATCH: Evette campaign volunteer arrested for assault at event in Greer
GREER, S.C. (FOX Carolina) - The Greer Police Department said a man was arrested after an assault at a political event in downtown Greer the day before the South Carolina primary election.
According to an incident report, officers were working a political event hosted by Lt. Gov. Pamela Evette’s campaign along Randall Street around 6 p.m. Monday when they saw 28-year-old Blake Kirsch run up to a person holding a megaphone and rip it out of their hands.
Officers said Kirsch then ran to a group of officers and handed them the megaphone. One officer told Kirsch to return it to the person and warned he could face charges, the report stated.
The incident report said the victim then approached officers and asked that charges be filed, saying Kirsch touched him. Police said they reviewed video recorded by a bystander and took Kirsch into custody.
Kirsch was charged with third-degree assault and battery. Police said he was issued a citation at the scene and taken to the Greer City Jail.
FOX Carolina reached out to Evette’s campaign team, which said Kirsch is not, and has never been, an employee of the campaign. The campaign also said he is no longer a member of Evette’s finance committee.
