COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - Three candidates are vying for the chance to become the first Democratic senator from South Carolina since 2005.

Kyle Freeman, Annie Andrews, and Brandon Brown have each made their case for why they should be the nominee for the general election in November, as polls close Tuesday at 7 p.m.

In the most recent poll conducted by The Citadel, Andrews leads second-place candidate Brandon Brown, 45% to 14%, and is the favorite to win the nomination.

Freeman is polling at 5%, with 36% of voters undecided.

While Andrews holds a 31-point lead, she will still need to top 50% to win outright on Tuesday.

Candidates must receive a majority of the vote to avoid a runoff; otherwise, the top two finishers will advance to a June 23 runoff.
