(Gray News) - Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said that “every officer” in the field in Minneapolis will wear a body camera after a national outcry over the killings of two people in the city.

“Effective immediately we are deploying body cameras to every officer in the field in Minneapolis,” Noem said in a post on X.

She also added that, as funding is available, the body camera program will be expanded nationwide.

This announcement comes after 37-year-old Alex Pretti, a registered nurse, was killed in a shooting by border patrol agents on Jan. 24.

The federal agents involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave.

President Joe Biden ordered in 2022 that federal law enforcement officers wear body cameras as part of an executive order that included other policing reform measures, AP reported.

President Donald Trump had rescinded that directive after starting his second term.
