Man charged in connection with 2023 shooting at West Columbia Popeyes

WEST COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - A man was arrested in connection with a 2023 shooting outside a West Columbia Popeyes.

On Thursday, April 18, 21-year-old Rodney Odell Brown was arrested. He faces attempted murder, weapons, robbery and conspiracy charges.

According to an incident report provided by the West Columbia Police Department, the shooting happened in November 2023 outside the Popeyes on Augusta Road.

The report stated when police responded to the shooting they found a man and woman with gunshot wounds. Police said the man was shot in the left shoulder and leg and the woman in her right buttocks.

The report goes on to say police spoke with the manager of the store who said an altercation happened outside involving the victims and Brown. The manager said that sometime during the incident they heard multiple shots and both victims took off running toward Carolina Pottery.

The manager stated Brown followed the victims in a black sedan and fired over 15 shots. The incident report also stated police later found out an employee at Popeyes jumped in the car with Brown.

Police said the shooting is still under investigation.

According to an inmate search, Brown’s bond has been denied following his arrest.
