FIRST ALERT WEATHER: Cloudy rest of the week with multiple rain chances

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - Temps are cooler than average and we see at least a chance of rain for the rest of the work week, with the heaviest rain happening Friday.

FIRST ALERT HEADLINES

• Tonight we see low 50s with cloudy skies and a 20% chance of a few showers.
• We have low 70s and a 30% chance of showers with cloudy skies Wednesday.
• Chances of rain are still around 30% Thursday with lows in the low 50s and highs in the upper 70s.
• Best chance of rain comes in Thursday night into Friday with an 80% shot, with heavier rain potential along with T-storms.
• We see a small break in the action Saturday before our next round of rain comes Sunday afternoon.

FIRST ALERT WEATHER SUMMARY

Temps are in the low 50s tonight with cloudy skies and we’ll just have a 20% chance of a few sprinkles here and there.

Wednesday we have mostly cloudy skies with a 30% chance of showers. The jet stream is down to the south over the entire Southeast. This brings small waves that cause enough uplift to warrant the chance of showers. Temps are still in the low 70s. The best chance for rain is in the late afternoon.

We have low 50s Thursday morning and highs reaching the upper 70s, a little warmer. There’s a 30% chance of showers again as we continue to see some more moisture moving in from the south.

A stronger trough in the jet stream swings east and brings an 80% chance of rain and even a rumble of thunder as well for Friday. As of now it looks to be heaviest during the Thursday night into Friday morning. We could see some redevelopment by the afternoon Friday. Around a half inch to three quarters of an inch is possible.

Saturday we get a break from the rain. We cannot rule out a 20% shot, but for the most part we remain dry. Expect mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies with highs reaching the low 80s.

Another low pressure system arrives Sunday. We’ve increased the chance of rain to 60%. Right now most of the activity looks to be in the evening to overnight. Lows are in the upper 50s and highs reach the mid 70s.

Wednesday: Mostly cloudy with a 30% chance of some isolated afternoon showers, highs are in the low 70s.

Thursday: Some breaks of sun early with isolated showers developing into the day, 30% chance. Temperatures in the upper 70s.

Friday: Scattered showers, especially through the first half of the day, with some t-storms around (80% chance). Highs to the mid-upper 70s.

Saturday: Partly cloudy with a 20% chance of a lingering shower possible. Highs in the upper 70s.

Sunday: Mostly cloudy with another chance for rain showers. Highs in the mid-70s.

Monday: Drier air moves in and we see some sunshine. Highs again settle in the low-70s.

Tuesday: Mostly sunny with lows in the low 50s and highs in the low 70s.
