FIRST ALERT WEATHER: Scattered showers & storms tonight/Friday

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - Expect some rain and even some lightning tonight and also again for Friday afternoon.

FIRST ALERT HEADLINES

• There’s a chance of showers and storms tonight as a low pressure system nears the region.
• We have a 50% chance of rain and thunder for Friday afternoon with upper 80s for highs.
• Saturday is dry and warm with mostly sunny skies.
• A cold front approaches from the west and brings a 40% chance of rain and storms for Sunday.
• Monday is cooler and breezy with gusts up to 25mph and high temps in the low 70s.

FIRST ALERT WEATHER SUMMARY

Tonight we have an 80% chance of some scattered showers and storms. Expect the heaviest activity to be from 10pm to 3am. Around a quarter inch of rain is possible as a low pressure system moves through the southeast from the Gulf of Mexico. Lows tonight will be mild and in the low 60s.

Friday is not a washout by any stretch. The low is continuing north and brings a 50% chance of showers and an isolated thunderstorm. The best chance looks to be in the afternoon into the early evening. High temps reach the upper 70s with mostly cloudy skies.

A high pressure system to our south with clear us up briefly for Saturday. Expect low temperatures in the upper 50s and highs in the low 80s. Skies are mostly sunny.

A cold front nears Sunday. This brings a 40% chance of rain and storms to the region. Lows are in the low 60s and highs reach the upper 70s.

Cooler air filters in behind the front for Monday with lows dipping down into the low 50s and highs reaching the low 70s. Skies are sunny and high pressure builds over the region. Winds are breezy with gusts up to 25mph.

Tuesday morning is cooler with upper 40s in the morning and highs reaching the mid to upper 70s. High pressure dominates our weather.

Friday: Scattered showers with some downpours & storms possible, chance of rain is 50%. Highs in the upper mid-70s.

Saturday: Mainly sunny conditions with highs pushing the low 80s.

Sunday: Showers and storm chances are back into the region (40% chance) with highs again in the upper 70s.

Monday: Sunny skies with highs in the low 70s.

Tuesday: Upper 40s in the morning with highs reaching the upper 70s.

Wednesday: Partly cloudy with highs in the upper 70s.
