FIRST ALERT WEATHER: Cooling off tonight and drying up for Sunday

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - We’re back in the upper 40s tonight and wee see plenty of sunshine Sunday with sunny skies. Still expect gusty winds up to 35mph for the Midlands this evening.

  • Temperatures cool down Sunday behind the front with highs in the lower 70s even with mostly sunny skies.
  • To start the work/school week we have low 70s with a few more clouds mixing in again. Some stray showers will be possible.
  • We warm again on Tuesday with highs reaching the low 80s. Yet again, stray showers can’t be ruled out.
  • Upper 80s are possible Wednesday with mostly cloudy skies and a 20% chance of showers and humidity starts to increase as well.
  • Temperatures drop and we see a more active pattern for Easter Weekend making it a cool and wet Easter.

Tonight will be much cooler as a cold front has passed through the region bringing behind it cooler and drier air lowering temps into the upper 40s.

Sunday is sunny and pleasant with much less wind as high pressure builds over the region. Expect highs in the low 70s with mostly sunny skies.

Monday we see a little more cloud coverage as southern flow takes hold bringing in a bit more moisture. Lows are in the upper 40s and highs reach the low 70s, near 73. There’s a 20% chance of showers.

Tuesday we really warm up, by about 10 degrees. Lows are now in the upper 50s and highs reach the low 80s. Expect partly cloudy to mostly cloudy skies and another 20% chance of an isolated shower or storm.

Southern flow intensifies as a trough to our west pushes east bringing a surge of abnormally warm temps to the Midlands Wednesday. Lows are in the low 60s and highs reach the upper 80s. There’s a 20% chance of an isolated shower or storm.

Thursday we have a cold front approaching from the west and that increases our chances of rain and storms to 50%. We are very warm and muggy as we head into the day with lows in the upper 60s and highs in the mid 80s.

Much cooler weather moves in behind the front and a trough sets up over the region Friday. This will keep us much cooler than average with better chances of rain for Eastern Weekend.

FIRST ALERT Weather Day Saturday: Gusty winds up to 40mph. Highs reach the upper 70s to around 80.

Sunday: Morning lows are back in the upper 40s to low 50s, as highs climb to the lower 70s under mostly sunny skies.

Monday: More clouds mix in with a possible stray shower (20%). Highs approaching the low to mid-70s.

Tuesday: Partly cloudy with a stray shower or storm (20%). Highs reach the lower 80s.

Wednesday: Cloudier and warm with a chance of some showers and thunder (20%), highs are even warmer in the upper mid-80s.

Thursday: Low to mid 80s with a 40% chance of scattered showers and storms.

Friday: Cloudy with cooler temps in the mid 60s. There’s a 60% chance of showers.
