FIRST ALERT WEATHER: Breezy & Warm Friday, then evening showers begin

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - The wind picks up and temps are mild Friday, then rain pushes in by the late afternoon.

FIRST ALERT HEADLINES

• Not as cold tonight with a few more clouds and lows in the upper 40s.
• Mostly cloudy, mild, and breezy for Friday.
• The chance of rain goes up Friday afternoon after around 4pm
• The best chance of rain is overnight with around 0.25-0.5″ possible.
• Saturday is much cooler with lows near 50 and highs in the mid to upper 50s.
• Sunday morning we have lows dip down to 37 and highs reach the mid 50s.
• The first day of spring could start off with some patchy frost as temps start off in the mid 30s Monday morning.

FIRST ALERT SUMMARY

Tonight is not going to be too terribly cold! Lows are down to the upper 40s with partly cloudy skies. Southern flow is helping warm our temps a bit, along with the clouds.

Friday we have a cold front approaching from the west. This front brings a strong southern flow that gets wind gusts up to 30mph. This will warm our temps into the mid 70s. Expect mostly cloudy skies. By the late afternoon we start to see some showers and heavy downpours push into the western counties. We could have a few rumbles of thunder out ahead of this front. The chance of rain is 80% for late Friday afternoon and goes up to 100% for the overnight period.

It really looks like the rain moves out of the region Saturday morning by around 3am. So we’ve dropped the chance of morning showers for Saturday. Know that temperatures will be chilly throughout the day with lows near 50 and highs reaching the upper 50s.

Sunday morning will be cold with lows down to the mid 30s with clear skies as high pressure builds from the north. Sunday afternoon we have mid 50s, so much cooler than average!

Monday morning we have mid 30s and highs reach the mid 50s. It’s the first day of spring, but it just won’t feel like it.

The models have been hinting at a chance of rain Tuesday, but have reduced the chance significantly, so we will keep it down to 20%. We have mid 30s in the morning and upper 50s for the afternoon/evening.

Tonight: Partly cloudy skies with lows in the upper 40s.

St. Patrick’s Day: Windy, cloudy, and warm with highs in the mid 70s and gusts will be near 30mph. Chance of rain for the late afternoon, and especially overnight.

Saturday: Clouds clear by the afternoon and temps are much cooler with highs in the mid to upper 50s.

Sunday: Mostly sunny and chilly with lows in the upper 30s and highs in the mid 50s.

Monday: Mid 30s in the morning and highs reach the mid 50s by the afternoon.

Tuesday: There’s a 20% chance of showers with lows in the mid 30s and highs reaching the upper 50s.

Wednesday: Upper 30s for lows and mid 60s by the afternoon with partly cloudy skies.
