FIRST ALERT WEATHER- Warm week with the potential for strong storms for Friday

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - Head’s up! Friday is an Alert Day for the potential for strong storms with gusty winds and isolated tornadoes.

FIRST ALERT HEADLINES

• Mild temps tonight with lows near 60.
• Low 80s with mostly sunny skies Tuesday.
• Partly cloudy skies and more low 80s Wednesday.
• Thursday has a 40% chance of rain showers and some thunder as well.
• FIRST ALERT Weather Day for Friday’s 50% chance of rain with some strong storms possibilities as well.
• Drier weather for the weekend with low 70s Saturday and mid 60s Sunday.

FIRST ALERT SUMMARY

We’re in for a mild night tonight with temps dipping down to around 60. Expect breezy winds with gusts up to 20mph. There’s a 20% chance of an isolated sprinkle as well as a weak cold front moves through the region.

High pressure builds from the northwest and this will bring sunny to mostly sunny skies Tuesday. Lows are in the low 50s and highs reach the low 80s.

The high pressure system moves east and a weak cold front nears from the north bringing partly cloudy skies Wednesday. Lows are in the low 50s and highs reach the low 80s once again.

Thursday a weak cold front swings south and stalls over the region. This front doesn’t fully pass through the Carolinas leaving us with warm temps in the mid 60s in the morning and low 80s by the afternoon. It will bring a 40% chance of showers and some storms to the region.

Friday we have a cold front approaching from the west. This increases our chances of rain to 50%. It is a First Alert Weather Day as we have a slight chance of severe weather (15%). Strong winds and an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out. If the front comes through during the afternoon when the atmosphere is most unstable we could see some strong storms. We will keep our eyes on it!

Dry air comes in Saturday. Lows are in the mid 50s and highs reach the low 70s with partly cloudy skies.

Tonight: Mild temps tonight with lows near 60s and skies partly cloudy.

Tuesday: Mostly sunny with temps in the low 80s.

Wednesday: Partly cloudy skies with lows in the low 50s and highs in the low 80s.

Thursday: Cloudy with a 40% chance of scattered showers and a few storms. Highs reach the low 80s.

First Alert Weather Day Friday: Windy with another round of showers/storms in the afternoon/evening. Highs in the low 80s.

Saturday: Partly cloudy skies with lows in the mid 50s and highs in the low 70s.

Sunday: Cooler, with lows in the mid 40s and highs in the mid 60s.
