VIDEO: Day five in the Murdaugh trial
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - The first week of the Alex Murdaugh trial came to a close on Friday. Court resumed at 9:30 a.m. and WIS live-streamed throughout the day.
Testimony on Friday kicked off with Detective Laura Rutledge who interviewed Murdaugh shortly after the murders.
A recording of the interview revealed Murdaugh again pointed to threats his son faced after the 2019 boat crash that killed Mallory Beach. Friends of Paul were named and laid out a timeline of that evening.

He said at around the time of the murders he took a nap and then went to visit his mother with Alzheimer’s. Rutledge said the timing of the visit seemed odd to her.
He described checking the pulse of both Maggie and Paul. Prosecutors argued that he should have blood on him if he had checked the victims. Rutledge testified that Murdaugh was clean when she interviewed him.
Court went into recess at around 1:00 p.m. and will return at 2:20 p.m.
